The following testimony is taken from Turning Controversy into Church Ministry: A Christlike Response to Homosexuality, by W. P. Campbell (Zondervan, 2010).
On a hot summer evening in August 1990, I was ready to die. It was Sunday, and my weekend had been consumed once again by alcohol. My regular weekend ritual was to drink until early Sunday evening and then sober up enough to go to work the next morning. That particular night I was used up; I was finished. All I could see were endless years of isolation, loneliness, humiliation, and despair. That night I was determined to end it once and for all.
