All in all it appears to have been a fairly ghastly [and appropriate for Lent, in the sense that water torture is] affair -- make sure you read the entire piece for many details:

He cited as his reasons for supporting the full inclusion of the LGBTs and the blessings of their pairings, personal experience, the "shellfish argument," his understanding of the scientific/genetic argument, the idea of "sexual orientation," and the "oppression" argument.
