As we gather to celebrate America's 235th birthday in whatever way free Americans decide to do it, we should remember the words of John Adams who said, "I believe that it (America's founding) will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be celebrated by pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations [i.e. fireworks] from one end of this continent to the other," But as America grows older, our celebrations appear to be less intense and focused. Other than our gallant military which we celebrate, many Americans focus on our problems and political controversies.
