The Evangelical Fathers and the Liturgy (with particular reference to Communion)
INTRODUCTION
While rejoicing over the large number of new churches that are being planted by the Anglican Church in North America, it is apparent that some of the new church-plants do not look at all like Anglican churches, and sometimes have precious little connection with Anglican theology, worship, spirituality or order. This should give us cause for concern. This lack of Anglican ethos is sometimes due to the fact that some of these zealous church planters are either new to Anglicanism or don't really know much about it; or to the fact that they have been formed in a more or less generic evangelical environment, believe that Evangelicalism and Catholicism are opposites, or that good evangelicals should focus on preaching Christ and that everything else is "secondary" and of little importance. Anglicanism is not Evangelical or Catholic, but Evangelical and Catholic, uniting Evangelical Truth and Catholic Order. To be genuinely Anglican, we must be thoroughly Evangelical and fully Catholic.
