RIO GRANDE: Bishop Vono seeks Consensus on Same-Sex Blessings
March 14, 2012
To all Laity and Clergy in the Diocese of the Rio Grande
Pastoral Announcement
Objective: Appointment of lay and clergy members to task force: Bishop's Council of Advice Dear Friends in Christ Jesus, The Lord has blessed us richly in this diocese. In the interest of continuing good communications and even greater pastoral collegiality between the laity and clergy, I am asking for your prayerful reflections and suggestions as we begin to study and address the probable action of General Convention regarding same gender blessings. My intention clearly is not to step ahead of the General Convention or the wider Episcopal Church, but rather intentionally and with all transparency to educate, to inform, and to equip the clergy and the laity of our Diocese so they are prepared if or when same-gender blessings are officially an option offered to the Episcopal Church. As a Bishop and a Diocese in faithfulness we will conform to the doctrine, discipline, and worship of the Episcopal Church's decisions in a manner pastorally sensitive to the needs and people of the Diocese.
