Opening with the beginning of Psalm 126 "When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, then we were like those who dreamed" South Carolina Bishop Mark Lawrence built on his grace filled vision of "Making Biblical Anglicans for a Global Age." His address outlined the manner in which the Diocese of South Carolina will engage the future.
Building on a foundation for global Anglican relationships Bishop Lawrence announced that in addition to its already existing relationship with the Horn of Africa additional ones with Dioceses in Ireland and Uganda were being added as well. Citing an old African proverb he reminded the diocese that "if you want to go fast go alone, but if you want to go far go together."
While not dwelling on the subject he did acknowledge the challenges of dealing with the recent charges placed against him to the Bishops Disciplinary Committee from unnamed persons within the diocese. However he further reminded the convention that we are called to face reality as it is, not as it was, nor as we might wish it to be.
