The General Convention of the Episcopal Church meets every three years and acts as though the world waits in expectant anticipation for what it has to say. This observation was made many years ago by my diocesan bishop who then added; the world of course does not. Given the recent meeting of several Province IV Bishops with Mark Lawrence of South Carolina I wonder if that was less an observation than a prophecy.
The official press release stated that, "Gracious hospitality and collegiality characterized the gathering." All that is missing from this image is a scene reminiscent of the classic movie "The Bishop's Wife" with Loretta Young (the Bishop's Wife) saying to Dudley( an angel sent to assist the family played by Cary Grant) "some sherry for the Right Reverend Gentlemen if you would be so kind , Dudley." Add music from the old commercial "celebrate the moments of your life" and you have an image that is just to precious to be believed. What is so sad is that I do understand this image and wish desperately that I could believe it.
