Given the way that liberals read Scripture, I guess it shouldn't surprise me when they get other things wrong also. For example, in the report on diocesan convention in our diocesan newspaper, The Messenger, the writer says that our parish, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Vestal NY witheld our diocesan assessment for 2004 based upon our disagreement with the actions of General Convention 2003. As I explained at the microphone at the beginning of the Friday session of convention, our parish does not have the money to pay our diocesan assessment. Our financial pledges decreased $30,000 from 2003 to 2004. The financial loss was a direct result of General Convention 2003; our non-payment of our assessment was based on our financial situation.
In addition to what I explained at diocesan convention, we have also said this in writing to the bishop and the diocesan board. You would think that someone writing an article about an event might actually listen to the speakers or otherwise know what they are writing about. You might also think that a district dean might have access to the kind of information that I shared with the convention at the Friday session. No, our church's action was wrongfully communicated in our diocesan newspaper, the Messenger, by the district dean writing the article.
Part of the problem here is that liberals live in an insular world. They talk to each other and not to conservatives, whom they denigrate or demonize (see my comments on the bishop's last two convention addresses). Because they live in their small, insular world, they begin to believe their own spin. There is no one in their world that corrects them, so they must be right. You would think that fairness would dictate getting the facts right for a news article, but then, we are dealing with liberals. When dealing with liberals, it's important to understand that how they feel about things matters - not stubborn things like facts. That's how a district dean writing for the diocesan newspaper could get it so wrong.
