The editor of DCNY has noticed for a few years now that as pecusa has been moving toward a more Roman Catholic veneer there has been less and less full catholic faith. The agenda of pecusa has become less and less apostolic, and this is highlighted by the embrace of the Millenium Development Goals as the primary mission imperative of pecusa. As I argued at the DCNY diocesan convention a few years ago, it speaks volumes that the top mission imperative of pecusa is funded at less than 1% of parish income. Of course, except for various "civil rights" it is the Anglican way to do things in a lukewarm way. The true apostolic gospel puts the Great Commission first and accords social ministry goals a high, but lesser role. This is because eternity is a whole lot longer than this life.
In pecusa today, Jesus is a way, a truth and a life, but not the way, the truth and the life. Hence, the gospel embraced by pecusa is the social gospel of good works that assist people in this life but do little for eternity. So, don't be fooled by the vestments. The folks under the vestments likely do not embrace the catholic faith of the universal church. They likely do not seek to build the kingdom of God through the proclamation of the apostolic faith. They are likely to be good, humanistic social workers dressed up like Roman Catholic priests and bishops. As Jesus taught, you will know them by their fruits.
