Prophetic Voices

"The Episcopal Church is not representing the scriptural authority of Christ. In the Episcopal Church, the biggest lie of all is that sexual morality doesn't matter, or that it's changing, that God is doing a new thing. Yet prophetic voices in our history have always taken us back to basics."

As one who has espoused this same view, I appreciate the candor of Bp. Beckwith in his comment that was reported by Ruth Gledhill (see post below). I made this point a few years back in a letter published in The Living Church. At the time the PB was Ed Browning and he was fond about going around talking about prophetic witness. I pointed out that the biblical prophets called the people of God back to the tradition; the biblical prophets chastised the people of God for departing from the tradition. In biblical theology the tradition is received as revelation from God that can not be tampered with as pecusa has been doing for over 40 years. It is time for pecusa to get back to basics, and since pecusa is unwilling to do so, it is time for a new Anglican province for North America. This is what the appeal to the GAFCON primates by the Common Cause Partnership is about (see the related post below).
