EPISCOPAL DIOCESE OF PITTSBURGH ANNOUNCES SPECIAL CONVENTION
Immediately following The Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburghs convincing October 4 vote to realign with the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone, the Diocesan Standing Committee announced that a special convention would be held on November 7 and 8 for the purpose of electing a bishop and planning for the continued mission of the diocese.
The two-day special convention will begin on the evening of November 7 at the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center, and feature a key note address by the Rt. Rev. Robert Duncan, bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh until his disputed removal from office by the national Episcopal Church, and currently a bishop in good standing with the Province of the Southern Cone.
The gathering will conclude on November 8 at Trinity Cathedral in downtown Pittsburgh, where it is anticipated that clergy and lay representatives from the dioceses churches will ask Bishop Duncan to return to his leadership post. His likely reinstatement as Bishop of Pittsburgh was made possible by todays decision to realign with the South American province, which has offered the diocese safe haven and a connection to the worldwide Anglican Communion until the formation of an orthodox Anglican Province in North America.
In addition to providing for continued leadership, the Saturday portion of the special convention will also address the ongoing mission of the diocese, featuring seminars focused on evangelization headlined by the Rev. Mike Breen, well respected expert in building dynamic mission-oriented church communities.
