PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC: AMiA Leader Will Embrace New North American Anglican Province

The Anglican Mission joins with our Common Cause Partners in celebrating the exciting developments emerging during and after the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) held in Jerusalem in June 2008.

The movement toward establishing a new North American Province continues to gain momentum, and we now believe that it is possible that we could actually see this reality unfold over the next several months.

Strong support for this new province has been voiced not only by the Anglican Mission's Council of Bishops and Network Leaders, but by quite a number of our lay and ordained leaders during special gatherings recently held in Atlanta and in Pawleys Island.

With this prospect of a new province for North America now before us, questions naturally arise as to what the creation of such a province will mean for the Anglican Mission.

In that the Common Cause Partnership has chosen to order its life together as a "federation of jurisdictions and ministries" seeking recognition as a province, we believe that there is no conflict in being fully committed to both the ongoing work of the Anglican Mission and the creation of this new province.

In their book Built to Last, James C. Collins and Jerry I. Porras, argue convincingly for just such a two-fold strategy in meeting new challenges as they hold up the "genius of BOTH/AND" as a powerful alternative to the "tyranny of EITHER/OR."

The Anglican Mission will embrace just such a "both/and" strategy and commitment as we look to the future.

We will both support and commit ourselves to the formation of this new province in North America, AND we will continue the work of building this Anglican Mission, fulfilling the unique call and focus we have received from the Lord as a missionary arm of the Province of the Anglican Church of Rwanda.

A Resolution of the Council of Bishops, a Statement from Network Leaders Gathering and a call to Prayer and Fasting is included in this special edition-I commend them to you. May we in the Anglican Mission be faithful in prayer, mission and ministry as we continue to work together to reach the 130 million unchurched people in North America.

Faithfully,

Bishop Chuck Murphy
Anglican Mission Chairman
