PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC: AMiA Leader Will Embrace New North American Anglican Province

by Bishop Murphy

October 2, 2009

The Anglican Mission joins with our Common Cause Partners in celebrating the
exciting developments emerging during and after the Global Anglican Future
Conference (GAFCON) held in Jerusalem in June 2008.

The movement toward establishing a new North American Province continues to
gain momentum, and we now believe that it is possible that we could actually
see this reality unfold over the next several months.

Strong support for this new province has been voiced not only by the
Anglican Mission's Council of Bishops and Network Leaders, but by quite a
number of our lay and ordained leaders during special gatherings recently
held in Atlanta and in Pawleys Island.

With this prospect of a new province for North America now before us,
questions naturally arise as to what the creation of such a province will
mean for the Anglican Mission.

In that the Common Cause Partnership has chosen to order its life together
as a "federation of jurisdictions and ministries" seeking recognition as a
province, we believe that there is no conflict in being fully committed to
both the ongoing work of the Anglican Mission and the creation of this new
province.

In their book Built to Last, James C. Collins and Jerry I. Porras, argue
convincingly for just such a two-fold strategy in meeting new challenges as
they hold up the "genius of BOTH/AND" as a powerful alternative to the
"tyranny of EITHER/OR."

The Anglican Mission will embrace just such a "both/and" strategy and
commitment as we look to the future.

We will both support and commit ourselves to the formation of this new
province in North America, AND we will continue the work of building this
Anglican Mission, fulfilling the unique call and focus we have received from
the Lord as a missionary arm of the Province of the Anglican Church of
Rwanda.

A Resolution of the Council of Bishops, a Statement from Network Leaders
Gathering and a call to Prayer and Fasting is included in this special
edition-I commend them to you. May we in the Anglican Mission be faithful in
prayer, mission and ministry as we continue to work together to reach the
130 million unchurched people in North America.

Faithfully,

Bishop Chuck Murphy
Anglican Mission Chairman

Resolution of the Council of Bishops of AMiA

August 26, 2008

We, the Anglican Mission Council of Bishops, meeting together August 26,
2008, supported and affirmed our active participation in the work of the
federation currently known as the Common Cause Partnership. We are committed
to working in step with the GAFCON Archbishops and Common Cause Partners for
the creation of a new province in North America.

We commend our Chairman for his commitment to actively share among the
principle leaders of Common Cause in ongoing meetings.Cross

At the same time, we strongly affirm that our primary work is wholly
missional for the "one hundred thirty million" who do not know Christ in
North America.

We are committed, as our mission statement says, to "Glorify God by building
an alliance of congregations in North America committed to gathering,
planting, and serving dynamic churches in the Anglican tradition."
Fulfilling Christ's Great Commandment and Great Commission remains our call.

The Rt. Rev. Charles H. Murphy, III, Chairman
The Rt. Rev. Thaddeus R. Barnum
The Rt. Rev. Terrell L. Glenn
The Rt. Rev. Alexander M. Greene
The Rt. Rev. Thomas W. Johnston, Jr.
The Rt. Rev. Philip H. Jones
The Rt. Rev. John E. Miller
