Day of Prayer and Fasting at Good Shepherd

As was reported in the Binghamton Press and Sun-Bulletin, a day of prayer and fasting is going on today at Church of the Good Shepherd in Binghamton. It began at 10 AM and continues until 4 PM. Pastor's from Methodist, Baptism, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, and Messianic Jewish traditions are offering meditations and leading prayers. I was one of the participant's this morning and I was edified by the meditations of three other pastors.

It is sick that Bishop Skip Adams and the Diocese of Central NY are suing Good Shepherd, a church that Adams' predecessor was willing to close. Good Shepherd has a strong ministry in their neighborhood including a weekly soup kitchen and regular food distribution. That the DCNY would rather shutter this church than allow it to remain open and serving their community is unconscionable. Yet, this is the way of the Adams' administration. After the bishop reflects a bit on the personal angle to his story from the desert fathers, maybe he could spend some more time contemplating Matthew 25.
