Statement from Bishop Murphy of the AMIA

DECEMBER 5, 2008:
Breaking Anglican Mission News

Statement from Bishop Murphy
Pawleys Island, South Carolina - December 5, 2008

Lead bishops of the Common Cause Partnership (CCP) and the Leadership
Council met in Chicago on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 and unanimously
adopted a provisional constitution and initial canons for the Anglican
Church in North America (ACNA).

We in the Anglican Mission celebrate this remarkable achievement and the
unity it represents. I am particularly pleased with the mission focus of
this constitution and its emphasis on the local church as the "fundamental
mission agency," with church members serving as primary mission agents.

Having served on the Governance Task Force that developed the new
constitution, I was able to help shape this document which provides for our
unique situation as a missionary outreach that continues to be a part of the
Province of Rwanda.

As I have stated on numerous occasions, we look forward to continuing to
assist with the work of this province in formation as we also remain
committed to the mission and ministry of the Anglican Mission. I look
forward to sharing how all of this affects our common life together during
my address at Winter Conference 2009 and hope you will be present at this
event as we look toward our future.

Below is the press release about Wednesday's events as well as links to
learn more about the provisional constitution and canons.

Faithfully,

Bishop Chuck Murphy
Anglican Mission Chairman
