Change of Schedule for Primates’ Meeting

News Update from The Living Church:

A change in the announced dates for the upcoming primates’ meeting and a slight adjustment to the published calendar of Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori will make it possible for her to attend the final day of the gathering of Anglican leaders in Alexandria, Egypt.

A media advisory published Jan. 15 by Anglican Communion News Service announced that the meeting would take place Feb. 1-5 and that all provinces would be represented except the Church of Pakistan and the Church of South India, whose moderators cannot attend due to previous engagements.

Not all provinces will be represented by their primate, according to the ACNS release. “When the primacy is vacant, it is usual for the province to nominate the dean of the province or the senior bishop to represent that province,” ACNS noted. “This will happen in a number of provinces on this occasion.”

The initial dates given for the primates’ meeting were Jan. 31 through Feb. 6. Bishop Jefferts Schori is scheduled to attend a regular meeting of Executive Council in Stockton, Calif., from Jan. 29-31 and she is listed as the guest of honor at a reception at a special reorganizing convention of Episcopalians in Fort Worth, Texas on Feb. 7.
