Fr. Matt Kennedy reports at Stand Firm:

The Diocese of Central New York has delivered this offer (PDF) to Good Shepherd via their attorney.
Here is a brief summary:
For a total of $2500.00 per month plus utilities and insurance which we would continue to pay, they offer to allow us to worship in our church until February 22nd and live in our rectory until April 20th.
If accepted, we must by January 16, deliver all of our books, records, ledgers, statements, bank records, minutes of meetings and resolutions along with a complete inventory of all personal property including furniture, fixtures, equipment, mechanical devices, office supplies, kitchen equipment, all vestments, and all other tangible personal property located now or formerly at Church of the Good Shepherd.
And, since this would "not in any way" be construed as a landlord-tenant relationship we would be subject to immediate eviction should the Diocese of Central New York so desire.
Editor's comment: Allow me to be blunt - the dcny leaders are schmucks. I could go into our dealings with these people, but why bother? Fr. Matt and the Church of the Good Shepherd are nearly free of the dcny and they will all soon know what a blessing it is to never have to deal again with these people. The dncy leadership have shown over and over again that they have no legitimate understanding of the Gospel and their dealings with those of us who have left them suggest that they haven't the slightest idea how to live as followers of Christ. No wonder a cloud of death hung over their most recent diocesan convention.

$2500.00 in a somewhat depressed area, is that a fair price? I wouldn't know what the rental costs of church property are, minus utilities, but that looks like a rather uncharitable offer.
Good point, anon. As a point of comparison, the diocese pays around $1300 a month on the St. Andrew's Community Center mortgage that they inherited when they took the buildings in Vestal over a year ago.
