In a strong and impassioned message yesterday, Bp. David Bena of the Convocation of Anglicans in North America challenged the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church to tear down the wall of intimidation and coercion by lawsuits that has been the mode of operation for pecusa during her tenure. Bp. Bena compared the actions of pecusa to the Berlin Wall, suggesting that pecusa will not allow parishioners to freely choose where God is leading them. Through lawsuits and the threat of lawsuits pecusa has systematically sought to coerce churches to remain in pecusa. Whereas dioceses that have left pecusa have allowed their parishes to freely choose whether to remain in pecusa or stay in their dioceses, pecusa uses the strong hand of the law to limit movement.
The Berlin Wall metaphor is apt and well chosen. As I have been saying for years, liberals are about power. They are not about freedom of thought as much as they'd like us to believe that they are open minded. pecusa uses coercive power in their attempt to immobilize Christian believers who do not believe that pecusa teaches the ways of God. The challenge now stands, "Jeffort Schori, tear down this wall."
