It amazes me how anti-intellectual the left has become. This was brought home again this morning when a friend reported on how a friend of his is using John Boswell's work to advance the notion that there is a long history of acceptance of same-gender sexual relations in the church. Boswell has been strongly critiqued for his views, liberals have not been successful in countering the critiques, and yet he is still being quoted as if he presents a viable viewpoint.
Liberalism demonstrates over and over again that there is little intellectual substance there, but there is plenty of sentimentality and even some deep emotion. If these qualities mattered for issues of truth then liberalism would offer something of value to the world. Sadly for liberalism they don't, thoughtful people realize they don't, and at least some people who care stand up for what is really true.
A number of years ago Bishop Fitzsimmons Alison wrote The Cruelty of Heresy. Perhaps today the book that needs to be written is The Cruelty of Liberalism.
