The Rt. Rev. Martin Barahona was one of the co-consecrators at the consecration of Mary Glasspool on Saturday in Los Angeles. As you may know, the DCNY has had a companion diocese relationship with El Salvador for many years.
What you may not know is that the Episcopal Church in El Salvador has trailed other Central American countries in growth. In a fertile area for growth in the world, the Episcopal Church in El Salvador struggles. Why is this?
I was told a number of years ago that El Salvador was the only place in Central America where the Episcopal Church is not growing and that Bishop Barahona does not accept missionaries from the South American Missionary Society (the name has recently been changed to the Society of Anglican Missionaries and Senders to better reflect the worldwide focus of SAMS). In other countries, like Honduras, SAMS has been assisting for many years in a number of ways.
Bishop Barahona sold his soul to pecusa a while ago and he continues on a liberal path that will not take root in Central America. Is it any wonder why the Episcopal Church in El Salvador continues in a weakened condition while the Episcopal Church in other parts of Central and South America flourishes? It isn't any wonder to me given the bishop's presence and participation in L.A.
