EPISCO-PYRRHIC

from Midwest Conservative Journal by The Editor

Today, lesbian Episcopal minister Mary Glasspool, who is a lesbian, will be consecrated as a bishop in Long Beach, California, becoming the second unrepentant sinner with a pointy hat in that former Christian church. So astute British observer Jonathan Wynne-Jones uses lots of words to state the blindingly obvious:

"Mary Glasspool will become the Anglican Communion’s first lesbian bishop today and the most telling thing about her consecration will be the reaction.

"Or lack of it.

"When Gene Robinson became the Church’s first openly gay bishop in 2003, it dominated the headlines around the world. African bishops condemned his consecration as “demonic” and evangelicals in the Church of England warned that it would cause an irreparable split.

"Tomorrow, it will barely register on the news agendas of most countries, and most churchgoers won’t know or care about it. Nothing could demonstrate more clearly that the liberals have won the battle over the place of gay clergy in the Church."

One word, Jon. Duh. But what, exactly, has the left won? I know I regularly joke about the tens of millions of progressives that are JUUUUUST about to become Episcopalians all because of Gene Robinson.

But the fact that they haven’t and that western Anglicanism’s free fall has accelerated since Robbie became the Episcopal Bishop of Insert Name Here, strongly suggests that everyone finally understands the Episcopalians.

Everyone.

Actual Christians figured out a long time ago that the secular culture writes Episcopal theology and that the Episcopal Organization hasn’t been meaningfully Christian for decades. The secular culture knows that TEO will never challenge it in any meaningful way and will love it no matter what so joining would be a waste of its time and money.

Yes, the liberals have won the battle for control of western Anglicanism. But western Anglicanism is an increasingly-feeble institution that influences no one and about which increasing numbers of Christians and non-Christians no longer care one way or the other.
