Alabama: ChristchurchXP Celebrates New Church Home

Longtime SF readers will remember when Stand Firm Alabama was publishing its own site, and doing a great job chronicling the troubles and challenges in the Diocese of Alabama.

Around that time, there was a good bit of upheaval in the diocese, with controversy surrounding The Rev. John Michael van Dyke and later the departure of a number of communicants from the diocese.

Some members of that group formed ChristchurchXP, and held their first service as a new church on April 17, 2005.

I'm happy to report that after only five short years the Parish’s vision of having their own home has finally become a reality.

On July 11, 2010 ChristchurchXP held its first service in its new church, located at 8800 Vaughn Road, just beside Southern Homes and Gardens. The new worship facility was designed by Les Cole of Cole & Cole Architects and constructed by Foshee Builders, Inc., under the leadership and direction of John Foshee, Jr., both of Montgomery.

I really like the lines of this new building: It captures the essence of traditional Anglican church buildings, but it's unmistakably a modern structure. It's tasteful and clean, a product of the parish's success and God's blessings, but not ostentatious or conspicuous.

The church would like to invite everyone to a special event on September 12, 2010, when ChristchurchXP will have a dedication and consecration of the new facilities. Special guests include the church's bishops, John Guernsey, and two archbishops from the Anglican Church.

The building dedication begins at 9:30, a Festival Eucharist follows at 10:30, and a Celebration Picnic on the church grounds begins at 12:00 noon.

The Parish is excited about the opportunities for evangelism within the Capital City and looks forward to welcoming visitors and anyone interested in finding a church family. For more information, please call their church office at 334-387-0566, or visit their website at http://christchurchxp.net.

Congratulations ChristchurchXP!
