We've seen this play before and hopefully the CoE can do better than pecusa did. In pecusa it began with a conscience clause that allowed diocesan bishops who had theological problems with women priests to refrain from ordaining them. Then the conscience clause was removed. As a member of the Executive Committee of pecusa said to me after it was removed, pecusa had given the opponents of women's ordination enough time to come around. Let's see how the CoE handles women bishops. ed.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, has said that he would prefer to leave the Church of England than be part of an institution that excluded traditionalist opponents of women bishops.
Dr Sentamu, a supporter of moves to ordain women bishops, said he "would not want to be in a Church in which people have the doors shut to them because of certain theological convictions which are strongly held".
