HAPPY PLACE

The Rev. Dr. Michael Kinnamon, head of the National Council of Churches Nobody Goes To Anymore, weighs in on what the great Jim Treacher has taken to calling the 9/11 Debris Field Mosque controversy. What Dr. Kinnamon has to say is mind-blowingly stupid so I’ll save you the trouble by hitting a few high points:

…out of prejudice and ignorance of the Muslim faith…narrow-minded intolerance…ignorance…hate crimes…systematic discrimination against Muslims…bigotry…bigotry…at the expense of millions of indigenous peoples…slavery…Japanese-Americans…

Today, millions of Muslims are subjected to thoughtless generalizations, open discrimination and outright hostility because of the actions of a tiny minority whose violent acts defy the teachings of Mohammed.

…ignorance…ignorance…

You get the idea. Like most good liberals, Mike’s got an “Islam” that exists only in his head and that he brings out every so often whenever people start, well, pointing out unpleasant truths.

Like the fact that the real life, career and sayings of Mohammed indicate that a deity that would have such a man as one of his prophets is an awfully bloodthirsty god and certainly not one worth wasting any time on.

Presbyterians didn’t make those signs up top there, Mike. Western Muslims did. The fact of the matter is that a whole bunch of your “tiny minority” would have leapt at the chance to be on one of those three planes. Here’s how the Palestinian man on the street reacted to the 9/11 attacks:
Popout
Your “tiny minority” is a lot bigger than you think it is, Mike.

Does that mean that there weren’t Muslims who were sickened by what happened on 9/11 and are to this day? Of course not. Of course there are and I feel sorry for them.

Is it “bigotry” to point out the truth? That Mike’s “small minority” has a WHOLE bunch of people in it? That Islam’s treatment of women would have to improve to be barbaric?

But that’s exactly why we need a center like this. Shouldn’t we do everything that we possibly can to build up moderate, civilized Islam and foster understanding between Islam and the West?

That we do. But how much do you think Islam’s image will improve in this country when the “moderates” behind this project insist on putting it in the most provocative place that they possibly can and refuse to even consider the possibility of moving or the feelings of New Yorkers?

Barack Obama almost got it right the other day. The Moslems have the right to build this mosque of theirs anywhere they care to. But he wasn’t commenting on the wisdom of the site they selected.

Had he done so, had he said something along the lines of, “The people who bought this parcel of land have the right, as Americans, to build a mosque anywhere they want to. But considering the site they have selected, I would strongly urge them to consider the feelings of their fellow Americans and look into building somewhere else.”

Had he said something like that, this controversy would be a long way to over. And even in Manhattan, there would have been no shortage of places to put it. I’d seriously be willing to let them have the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Lord knows, Christians haven’t used it in decades.

But the President didn’t say that. So we in the Christian West are, according to simpering toadies like Mike Kinnamon, supposed to “respect” and “understand” a religion that once again demonstrates that it doesn’t respect any other religion and has no interest in what Western Christians say, do or think about anything.
