After having some time to reflect on Synod 2010, I write these observations.
It was known that Resolution #6, "Full Communion with the Episcopal Church", would be the defining act of the MCSP (Moravian Church Southern Province). For many months a study group at Olivet Moravian Church did their best to sound out the solemn warning that full communion with the TEC was unbiblical and would bring reproach upon the name of Jesus Christ. Documents concerning this are viewable at www.Moravians.org.
Unfortunately the efforts in opposition were not successful. By a vote of 121 to 74, Resolution #6 passed with approximately 8 to 10 abstentions.
To the non spiritual it would seem that simply those in favor won and those opposed lost. However it is more complicated than that. In reality, the cause of Christ lost and the cause of the world, the flesh, and the devil won. The passing of Resolution #6 marks the end of the Moravian Church as a viable part of the testimony of Jesus Christ and the Word of God in this present age.
