pecusa is in a dealing mood

pecusa, long the litigation-prone denomination, has found a new way to deal with departing congregations. In Virginia and Pennsylvania, pecusa has cut deals rather than continue costly litigation. The departing congregations have had to pay a price for pecusa's newfound rationality. The departing congregations must agree not to be in partnership with any other Anglican entity.

What does this mean? Surely it means financial savings for pecusa and the departing congregations. It is also a restraint on free association (last time I checked, this was a constitutional right as well as a Christian privilege). Maybe the scorched earth policy of Schori is coming to an end as bishops realize that bankrupting their dioceses for legal expenses really is not an intelligent policy. We'll see how this plays out in coming months and years.
