The Rev. Ed McNeill (left) and the Rev. Victor Schreffler (right) wave their terrible towels on behalf of their newly admitted congregations.

Twenty-one congregations were added to the Diocese of Pittsburgh at the 146th Convention held at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA on November 4-5, 2011. This is the largest number of congregations to join the Diocese in a single Convention since its founding in 1865. The group of congregations joining the Diocese consisted of two parishes, eight mission fellowships and eleven church plants (mission fellowships-in-formation).

Of particular note were two church plants in the Pittsburgh vicinity which were admitted to the Diocese. Sanctuary, a church plant in Lawrenceville, has officially launched under the leadership the Revs. Tracey and Jamey Russell. Mosaic Church, which is being planted by the Rev. Elaine Storm, has begun meeting in the Robinson Township area. These two church plants are significant because they show that there is still plenty of fertile ground for new works, even in places where Anglicanism has historically had a robust presence.
