Same Sex Blessing Takes Place in the Diocese of Virginia

St. Paul’s Memorial Church at the University of Virginia, with the approval of diocesan bishop Shannon Johnston(who has been called a “fellow Christian” and whose ministry is promoted by the rector of Truro), blessed a “covenant relationship” between two women this week:

An Invitation from Deborah Healey and Margaret Mohrmann - The covenant relationship between Deborah Healey and Margaret Mohrmann will be blessed in a Holy Eucharist at St. Paul’s on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at 11 a.m. Deborah and Margaret invite all who wish to affirm this covenant and participate in its blessing to be present, in witness and support, at the service and to attend the celebratory reception in the Parish Hall immediately afterwards.

In an article about the blessing posted on the website of a local NBC Affiliate Bishop Johnston is quoted as saying:

‘“I am convinced – both theologically and experientially – that committed, monogamous, same-sex relationships can be faithful in and to the Christian life,”

And apparently the rector of Truro believes that a bishop who teaches such things is a brother in Christ whose ministry is to be supported and promoted.
