Diocese of South Carolina Turns the Page; Looks Forward
[Ed. Note: Today, 71 out of 74 clergy voted to leave TEC at the South Carolina re-organizational meeting; three abstained. 90% of the laity voted to depart. It is now official, that the Diocese of South Carolina will sever their affiliation with the Episcopal Church. Several groups of bishops, including those from Communion Partners and the Bishop of Upper South Carolina are still working to reconcile Bishop Mark Lawrence and TEC. Funny, but no one from The Forum of South Carolina - the group publicly opposed to Bp. Lawrence, who submitted the charges to the disciplinary committee - speaks a single syllable of reconciliation. Given today's solidarity, I doubt any plan other than the Second Coming can halt this departure. Yet, the doors of all churches will swing open tomorrow as people gather to worship. Prayer for South Carolina still appropriate and appreciated. Cheryl M. Wetzel]
