Citing unwarranted intrusions from national headquarters into the life of our people, protesting changes in laws affecting the same, and claiming the right as a sovereign body to leave its parent institution, an historic vote was taken to assert the autonomy of the people of South Carolina from outside authority.
No, I am not referring to the act of the sovereign state of South Carolina on December 12, 1860 by which it became the first state to leave the Union. I am referring to the Special Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina on November 17, 2012.
