THE OCTAVE OF CHRISTIAN UNITY
January 18th marks the beginning of the Octave of Christian Unity, commonly called the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This observance began in 1908, and the dates of January 18th through January 25th were first proposed by Fr. Paul Wattson, founder of the Anglican Graymoor Franciscan Friars. The observance begins on the Feast of the Confession of St. Peter ("Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God" - Matt. 16:18), the Anglican (see Lesser Feasts and Fasts, 1973 edition) counterpart to the Roman Catholic Feast of the Chair of St. Peter, and concludes with the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul on January 25th.
