Conciliation process continues

by Cheryl M. Wetzel,  January 13, 2013  reporting from Dallas

Dear Readers,

Last week the House of Bishops, TEC held a two day conciliation meeting with representatives of the 9 bishops that signed Amicus Curiae regarding properties occupied by those who left TEC. the Amicus briefs were filed with the Supreme Courts of Illinois and Texas and emphasized the statements contained in the Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church.

I asked for your prayers during this period and thank you for your faithfulness.  Please do not stop praying.  The  process is not over and more meetings for “conciliation” will be held in the future.

I have emailed with almost all of the other orthodox reporters since last Thursday and no one has heard anything.  When the TEC team required confidentiality, they apparently got it.

I can report that my bishop the Rt. Rev. James M. Stanton, is home and continues as our bishop here in Dallas.  He was one of three bishops representing the nine. We have not – and will not – speak about the proceedings until it is all over and confidentiality has been lifted.

This disciplinary matter was provoked by a single lay person who then scouted around for bishops and others to meet the signatures required for a credible complaint under Title IV canons.  That person boasted frequently at last summer’s General Convention about the clever work done to make the complaint happen.  Clearly, it is an open threat against 9 orthodox bishops, most of whom are retired.

I believe the process and the conciliation sessions are aimed at humiliation and intimidation. Please put this issue near the top of your prayer list.  If you need more details, please read the January 7 post on this blog.

Thanks in advance,  Cherie Wetzel
