10510

It's not a zip code; it's the number of posts on the DCNY blog.  This blog was started in 2002 to support Fr. David Bollinger who was being persecuted by the Bishop of the Diocese of Central New York for reporting a pedophile priest.  The priest that Fr. Bollinger reported is now in prison in Pennsylvania for molesting boys at St. Paul's in Owego.  While the Diocese of Central New York was unable or unwilling to find enough evidence, the State of Pennsylvania did.

The bishop of Central New York tried to silence Fr. Bollinger and when that didn't work he tried to revoke his priesthood.  His own diocese's ecclesiastical court threw that out because the bishop would not release evidence to Fr. Bollinger's defense team.

That evidence, the Schaffer Report, has still not been released to my knowledge.  Some in the diocese  believe that that report substantiates illegal behavior by diocesan staff of the DCNY and possibly by the bishop himself.  Until that report is released (and it's been several years now), we won't know, which is exactly how the bishop of the DCNY wants it.

At the time the bishop was persecuting Fr. Bollinger, he hired a public relations firm to help him present his case to the public.  Fr. Bollinger's legal fees to fight the unjust conduct of the bishop were expensive and he didn't have additional money to hire a p.r. firm besides.  So, this became one forum to get his side out.

The bishop also shut down an email service in the diocese that was being used to inform the diocese of the misdoings of their hierarchy.  Try as he might, the bishop was unable to control the flow of information.

In addition to this blog, the Syracuse Post-Standard and the Binghamton Press and Sun-Bulletin were happy to report on the misconduct of the DCNY.  Especially when the bishop was less than forthcoming with them.

So, it's been over ten years, over 10,000 blog posts, and we're still at it.  I hope that you find the DCNY blog to be helpful.
