A responsible loyal opposition is always preferable to a single mindset no matter how well intentioned that mindset may be. Any organization which would systematically eradicate members who hold reasonable but alternative opinions will ultimately end in self destruction.
The Title IV Canon was just the latest example of the poor decisions affecting the credibility of the Episcopal Church. Many clergy who supported this canon did so in the assurance it would act as a deterrent to bishops who were out of control. While this may be laudable in theory the reality has been disaster. It is now recognized as a weapon to purge clergy who would dare challenge the revisionist agenda. It also provides a pretense of respectability as well as cover for those who misuse it.
