Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans, founders of the Sunday Assembly, a growing godless congregation based in the UK which attracts Millenials ‘without hope and lost in the world’, have called the former Episcopal Bishop of Newark John Shelby Spong to be its first bishop.
In an e-mail, Jones and Evans told VOL, “Spong was the perfect fit for us. He has denied almost every doctrine and creed of the Christian Faith and after a moment of silent star gazing, followed by twenty minutes of navel gazing, She Who Must be Obeyed (SWMBO) but who in fact we are not sure exists, sent word that Spong’s ‘The One.’ For a while we thought of calling Oprah but she had some convoluted beliefs largely about how much she thought she was g-d that we called off the idea.
