A guy named Tony Jones has run out of patience with some of you people:

I don’t take this lightly. I very much take Jesus’ prayer for unity in the Fourth Gospel seriously. Our eschatological hope is that the church will be one, and that we will all be united in belief, practice, and love.

But sometimes we need to separate. We need to say hard words to those who are not living the way that Jesus laid out for us. We need to divorce.

Why is that?  Because of The Second Most Important Moral Issue In The History Of Existence As We Know It.

The time has come for a schism regarding the issue of women in the church. Those of us who know that women should be accorded full participation in every aspect of church life need to visibly and forcefully separate ourselves from those who do not. Their subjugation of women is anti-Christian, and it should be tolerated no longer.

Do tell.

That is, we who believe in the full equality of women need to break fellowship with those who do not. The time for dialogue and debate has passed. The Spirit has spoken, and we have listened. It’s time to move forward with full force.

Would anybody happen to remember exactly when this happened?  Ballpark it for me if you’re not sure.  Otherwise one would have to conclude that, to Tony Jones, “The Spirit has spoken,” means exactly the same thing as “Because we said so, that’s why!!”

Other issues that vex the church have not risen to the level of schism. Gay rights, for example, is an issue being worked through diligently and faithfully by many churches and denominations. They deserve time and grace as they study the Bible, listen to their people, and test the Spirit.

And then come to the correct conclusion which is, of course, that homosexuals should also be fully included in all levels of the Church.  Further proof that to Tony, testing the Spirit means declaring what you want the Holy Spirit to say and then deciding that He said it follows.

The full equality of women and men, however, is an issue that has long since been settled.

Once again.  When was this exactly?

Those who continue misogynistic practices in the church are not being faithful to the Bible or the Spirit of Christ, they are perpetuating retrograde and archaic beliefs and are doing great violence to women and men and the cause of Christ.
It will be difficult for many people. It will cause broken relationships. But we have daughters, and the subjugation of women in the church needs to end in this generation.

So much stupid.

“Misogynistic practices,” Gracie?  “Subjugation?”  So I guess John 13:35 is yet another patriarchal mistranslation and should read:

By this shall all people know that you are my disciples, if women have full equality in all levels of the life of My church.

I’m invoking the “Jesus never said anything about it” rule and calling shenanigans on Jones’ whole stupid idea. Primarily because you’ll notice the complete lack of Biblical citations.  Almost as if Tony knows that he’s just making crap up here.

So either Christ wasn’t who He claimed He was or, to alleged Christian Tony Jones, expressions like “Jesus Christ” or “Holy Spirit” are utterly meaningless terms used to sell leftist political causes to the brain-dead rubes.  And since Tony’s also down with premarital sex, I’m going with option two.
