World Vision Betrays the Gospel

World Vision, one of the largest and most important evangelical charitable para-church organizations, has decided to reverse its longstanding policy and employ men and women who live in same sex “marriages”.
World Vision now falls into the category of a ” purportedly Christian organization” that “promotes and embraces sexual sin”. For the sake of those who struggle with same sex attraction, Christians cannot continue to lend World Vision credibility or legitimacy so long as she bears the name Christian.

World Vision is not on “some slippery slope”. World Vision has slid all the way down the slope and over the edge. Russell Moore, John Piper, Trevin Wax and Mark Marshall all have some excellent insights and comments on the decision. Russell Moore’s piece sums up the matter well:
“At stake is the gospel of Jesus Christ. If sexual activity outside of a biblical definition of marriage is morally neutral, then, yes, we should avoid making an issue of it. If, though, what the Bible clearly teaches and what the church has held for 2000 years is true, then refusing to call for repentance is unspeakably cruel and, in fact, devilish…”
World Vision must now be stripped of Christian support. Those who continue to contribute cooperate and participate in her betrayal. Last year I worked up a declaration for parishes and Christian leaders dealing with the question of “reconciliation” as that word has come to be defined (and corrupted) by Anglicans who wish to promote and support the ministry of false teachers. Paragraph 2 of that declaration states:
Christian mission involves both works of mercy and an articulation of the truths of the Christian faith. Those who reject the word of God do not engage in Christian mission. The “good works” they do tend only to obscure the cruelty of their teachings. Orthodox Christian leaders cannot engage in “common mission” with bishops, priests, or other leaders of a purportedly Christian organization who promote and embrace sexual sin without contributing to this obscuration. Therefore we reject all calls to engage in Christian mission with false teachers.
World Vision now falls into the category of a ” purportedly Christian organization” that “promotes and embraces sexual sin”. For the sake of those who struggle with same sex attraction, Christians cannot continue to lend World Vision credibility or legitimacy so long as she bears the name Christian.
