It seems like every time you turn around these days, there’s some leftist group trying to stifle discussion of one of their pet causes. The latest is the Union of Concerned Scientists, which is criticizing CNN because…wait for it…they actually acknowledge another side in the global warming debate! Horrors!! According to the Daily Caller:
A new study put out by a liberal environmental group claims that major news networks misled their viewers on the science behind global warming because they allowed “skeptics” to debate on the air.
The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) released a report claiming that CNN got climate science “wrong” in 30 percent of its segments on global warming largely because they allowed actual debate to happen on man-made global warming.
UCS noted that allowing debate on the subject “suggests that established climate science is still widely debated among scientists” and allows global warming skeptics to confuse the public with their dissenting comments.
“The biggest step that CNN could take to increase accuracy is to stop hosting debates about established climate science and instead focus debates on whether and how to respond to climate change through climate policy,” said UCS.
Galileo is not impressed.

So here’s the deal. If you have doubts that the IPCC is the Word of God, you may not express that opinion in public. If you think that traditional marriage is the way to go, you must resign your job. If you think Obamacare is a bad deal, you are a racist, and must be shunned. If you think that abortion is wrong, you may not say so on many college campuses. On those same campuses, even hinting at doubts about the multicultural, politically correct victimization ideology of the hyper-sensitive is to create a “climate of violence” that deserves censure, suspension, and expulsion. And so on.

I’m not sure when it happened, but at some point the free speech, stick-it-to-the-man, question-authority left has morphed into its worst nightmare. Somewhere (presumably very, very hot), Joe Stalin is smiling.
(Headline used with apologies to Jeff Dunham. By the way, have any of you ever noticed that that puppet has more personality than some Episcopal bishops?)

Editor's Note: there's a reason for that - dioceses now tend to elect nice guys who have little theological backbone, but they play nice with others.
