Poll: 670,000 Episcopalians want to ratchet up lawsuits and plant churches later

A new poll indicates that 670,000 Episcopalians, mostly elderly, are determined that Episcopal Church leadership should spend as many millions as it takes to recover church properties, rather than evangelize or make disciples of all nations.

According to the survey conducted by VOL, lawsuit happy Episcopalians hope that Presiding Bishop Jefferts Schori will eventually do something about church planting, but they are adamant that millions more dollars be spent now on lawsuits to recover properties.

By a wide majority, respondents to the poll “strongly agreed” with the statement “I really think the church should spend as much as it takes and treat it as its No. 1 concern," even taking it all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States, and make serving and helping the poor a secondary consideration.
