Justification by faith only under attack

The Reverend Roger Salter’s intention is to defend the gracious doctrine of justification by faith alone against what are perceived to be attacks upon it, either directly or indirectly, from the Federal Vision, and various “sacramentalists” of a Roman or Romanising type. This endeavour is greatly to be applauded, as it is the article of the standing or falling church, as Luther said, and the hinge upon which true religion turns, according to Calvin.

Of greater interest to Anglicans is Article XI, Of the Justification of Man, which says:

WE are accounted righteous before God, only for the merit of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ by faith, and not for our own works or deservings. Wherefore that we are justified by faith only is a most wholesome doctrine, and very full of comfort; as more largely is expressed in the Homily of Justification. (Italics mine).
