And it is all David Ould’s fault.

In a short break from blowing up the consecration of revisionists as bishops and making the case for Christianity on Australian TV (all images may appear upside down on your screen), DO teed off on Hillsong, a popular conference movement featuring prominent Christian artists and speakers, coming to Sydney in the week ahead.  (The conference is the work of Brian Houston, hence the title of this post.  More about him below.)

David points out that the speaker lineup sports some dubious “Christianity.”

Past Hillsong conferences included Kong Hee, a mega church propsperity preacher caught up in a fraud scandal; Joel Osteen (say no more); TD Jakes, a leader in the “Oneness Pentecostal” movement, which among other things denies the Trinity; and numerous others who David details at his blog.  There are links that open up to all the evidence of their aberrant teachings and practices.

The upcoming conference sports Steven Furtick of “Elevation Church.”  Furtick shocked wider church sensibilities as evidence of a developing cult of personality was revealed.  A “code” for the conduct of Elevation’s worship leaders read in part,
We Are United Under The Visionary: Elevation is built on the vision God gave Pastor Steven.  We will aggressively defend our unity and his vision… We believe that God’s given Pastor Steven the vision of where he wants to take Elevation’s ministry.  And the Lord’s called us all here to use our gifts and strengths corporately as a way of seeing that vision come to life…
We’re not partially tied into Elevation, or partially behind Pastor Steven’s vision.  We feel called to support him and what the Lord’s doing here. Worship leaders, we’ve said it before….GET BEHIND YOUR PASTOR.  Support him and the vision God’s given him…
... and there was this now notorious page from the church’s material for children,
