PHOENIX, ARIZONA: The Church not immune from violence and death
Violent death strikes down Catholic priest in his rectory

Death has again crept in the side door of a church and taken the life of a priest. This time it is a Roman Catholic priest in Phoenix.

Unfortunately, school shootings have become all too familiar. Almost weekly, the headlines proclaim another school shooting. This week Reynolds High School in Troutdale, Oregon made the headlines when a student was killed and a teacher shot.

The church is not immune to such deadly violence. Just within the past two years, two Episcopal clergy died in their respective churches: one from gunshot, another from arson.

On May 3, 2012, the Rev. Dr. Mary-Marguerite Kohn, co-rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ellicott City, ND, and her administrative assistant, Brenda Brewington died at the hands of a difficult and belligerent homeless man, Douglas Franklin Jones.
