Report from the Field: Another Presiding Bishop Visit To Another Diocese Far Far Away

from Stand Firm by Sarah Hey

[Received via email and posted with permission; please note that this person won't be leaving TEC and is not particularly radical, as you'll see when you read this. I thought it was an interesting report, as a result. Good to see that in every diocese around TEC, people come to listen to her, and many leave unimpressed.]

It was an interesting day. I got a glimpse into how the PB's mind and soul work. She started out with a meditation on Genesis, in which she more or less discounted the fall. (So why do we need a savior?) . . .

. . . In any case, one person asked if there would be room for people who would not do same sex blessings after GC09. Her response was that no one has to do a sacrament they are not comfortable doing. She then went on to say that no one forced Iker, Ackerman or Schofield to ordain women. No one brought charges, "Even though there would have been good canonical grounds to do so."

Another person called the ACNA people Anglican, and she quickly responded that they are NOT Anglican. A point she and I would agree on for different reasons. When he tried to ask a follow-up, she said, "You've spoken already, let's give someone else a chance." . . .

. . . She did tell a few outright lies. She said that the people of Ft. Worth were prohibited from receiving Episcopal Life by Bishop Iker. I would like to know what kind of authority he has over the USPS. She was also asked about interference in the Northern Virginia negotiations. She said all that she did was to say that Bishop Lee had to get a fair price for the property. She did not acknowledge that she would not permit the property to be sold to a CANA congregation. I went to the person who posed the question after the meeting and explained what she had said in her deposition. He is an extreme revisionist, but also an honest liberal. He asked me to help him find her statement. He did not want to believe that she lied, but was certain that was a possibility.
