Dear Vestry members:

I hope this letter finds each of you well. As you know I am in Ecuador for the House of Bishop's meeting but you have been very much in my prayers and thoughts. I am concerned about waiting to speak to you until I return from my trip and so I apologize in advance that I am addressing these matters by way of a letter and not coming to meet with you in person.

In any event, now that a few weeks have passed since Judge Ott's Order, I think we need clarity regarding our mutual obligations as we move forward. Because the Parish no longer has a duly chosen and installed rector, the Canons state that it is under the supervision of the Diocesan Bishop, who has delegated this task to me.

I have thought continuously about what that supervision should entail and have concluded that we need to have in place mechanisms to ensure we are openly and routinely in communication with each other and the Congregation. Most importantly, given the rumors and concerns brought to my attention regarding the use of parish assets (which I am sure have come to your attention too), we must put in place structures that everyone can rely upon to understand what is being done, why it is being done and know that it is being done openly and for a proper purpose.
