If as the historical axiom states 'truth is the first casualty of war" then as we begin this next phase in the Episcopal Churches great civil war it is crucial that we discern not only that which is true but that which is accurate. Bishop Dorsey Henderson, the chair of the Title IV Disciplinary Committee has issued a communication stating that charges against Bishop Mark Lawrence originate neither from the presiding bishop nor the house of bishops. This may be absolutely true, but it is hardly accurate. They did not have to.

During the summer word was already out that charges would be forthcoming from a South Carolina group known as The Episcopal Forum. Its spokesman Barbara Mann states that any material provided by their organization was intended for informational purposes rather than the leveling of charges. The truth here would be easy to determine. All that is needed is for the Presiding Bishop, her chancellor, President of the House of Deputies Bonnie Anderson, and Ms Mann to publicly release all correspondence in this regard. If they are unwilling to do this then it can be obtained during the discovery phase of a civil trial. In other words the truth is going to come out eventually so why not own it early?
