The Episcopal Church Is Right to Protect Its Property

A recent article by Mollie Ziegler Hemingway of the Wall Street Journal title Twenty-First Century Excommunication subtitled You're not Anglican, says the Episcopal Church to congregations that split over its liberal doctrinal and political stances has brought forth a torrent of opinion on both sides.

This in turn brought forth this reaction from Ann Treimann of Marston Mills, Mass which also appeared in the Wall Street Journal

"The Episcopal Church not only asserts that all church assets within the denomination are held in trust for the national church regardless of state property laws, but now it also is requiring congregations departing because of freedom of religion issues, such as theological drift, etc., to sign five-year "disaffiliation" clauses in order to keep the buildings the departing congregations had paid for and maintained, and to be released from expensive litigation.
