Harder or Smarter?: Challenges for The Episcopal House of Bishops

Some years ago I sat watching the Goodwill Games from Australia with special interest in the swimming competition. One of the participants was a parishioner and my son's friend. As he continued in his quest to qualify for the Olympic Team he found himself experiencing what athletes refer to as "hitting the wall". This phenomenon occurs when athletes are unable to move into the next level of training needed to compete. Seeking guidance from his uncle, a former Olympic hurdler, my young friend explained his frustration at working harder than ever before with lack of success. His uncle responded that at the level in which he now competed everyone trained and worked hard. The real issue was whether or not he was working smart.
