The recent public announcement of the closing of Waterville's historic Grace Episcopal Church is a tragic commentary on the precariousness of many struggling American churches. Its closing ending a long and very distinguished chapter in the religious life and history of this community; a remarkable tenure that encompassed the better parts of three centuries.
Church members were often Waterville's "movers and shakers." Their influence, leadership and financial position contributing to Waterville's well deserved reputation as one of this finest communities in the area to live.
When a church of this historic stature closes it seriously affects a community's ethical and moral standards. The consequences of which are detrimental to a community's wholesomeness.
