Liberals and Fr. Don Armstrong

pecusa liberals are falling all over themselves about Fr. Don Armstrong's fate in Colorado. The first biased report is the next post and further down is an extremely biased report. Why is this such an issue for them? I suspect that it is just part of their general gnashing of teeth at the ACNA. Liberals can't stand competition precisely because they can't stand up to competition. In the marketplace of ideas many people soon realize the bankruptcy of liberalism. Hence, we get these nasty blog pieces about Fr. Don Armstrong.

No, Fr. Seel. the reason liberals are "falling all over themselves" about Armstrong+ is becauNse of how the conservative blogosphere portrayed the Diocese of Colorado's ecclesiastical trial of Armstrong and its allegations about Armstrong's use of funds. The specific concern was the motivation of the diocese's actions. Armstrong's supporters alleged he was being singled out for his orthodox views. The first round of this were condemnations of the kangaroo court established by the diocese; the argument made that if the charges were legitimate, the case would be turned over to the civil authorities. When the case was, supporters derided the Diocese for how the civil authorities handled their investigation. Fr. Armstrong and his supporters chose to make the discussion about liberal vs. conservative. By contrast, the Diocese and liberals chose to see the case as simply one of the illegal use and misuse of funds belonging to another by Armstrong, an individual, for his personal gain. After the diocese's investigation, it came to believe that Armstrong had committed the acts alleged and deposed him. It had a fiduciary responsibility to do so. With the Alford plea and the nolo contendere, the diocesan position that its action against Armstrong was based on his financial transactions, not his Theology, has been justified. For that reason, "liberals" who may have countenanced the litany of insults cast at the Diocese might feel much gratified. From the comments made on St. George's website (I believe in the Rector Recommends area), despite the Alford plea and no contest, St. George's continues to couch this as a liberal v. conservative debate.

He wasn't being singled out because of his conservative views and the diocesan court was improperly characterized as a kangaroo court?

What you see as so significant was dismissed by the court as one misdemeanor with no admission of wrongdoing. So, I think that my comments about liberals and Fr. Armstrong are justified.
