Has Fr. Haller Gone Silent?

In a back and forth on John Jay, Fr. Tobias Haller had this to say:

"Actually I think many of John Jay's fellow Anglicans / Episcopalians of that era would find themselves right at home in TEC. You forget that the currents of rationalism were far more advanced in those days. The Episcopalian Jefferson, for example, actually rewrote the Bible -- something your colleagues are fond of claiming TEC has done."

Since the last few postings demonstrate that John Jay would not in fact feel "right at home in TEC" there has been no reply from Fr. Haller. Maybe he's not an evening person or an early riser. As for Jay's contemporaries, even given the deism of at least a few of them, to suggest that they would feel right at home with pecusa immorality and theological and liturgical license is quite a stretch, even for a liberal. As for Haller's silence, perhaps he read the posts about Jay and learned something. For example, maybe he learned that to equate Jay with Jefferson is to demonstrate a level of ignorance that is only matched by pecusa's recent arrogance toward the rest of the Anglican Communion. As for pecusa's rewriting of the Bible, no, I'd say they ignore it or try to go around it with novel interpretations. By novel interpretations I'm thinking about something like a booklet on human sexuality from the DNY that Fr. Haller contributed to a few years back. I'm fairly certain from what we know about John Jay that he wouldn't approve of that work either. I doubt that Jefferson would be approving of this either, but liberals will no doubt continue to cling to their fantasies on these subjects. ed.
